The Unmarked Categories / İşaretlenmemiş Kategoriler


The Unmarked Categories exhibition open in K2 Gallery in İzmir between 11 september and 11 october 2007. Project attends to question current dominant power structures from the perspective of the powerless.

The exhibiton is featured by an artist, all invited artists and writers take part in the project with the same importance. Writers are not invited as usuall to write about works instead they are invited to part in the frame of exhibition. In the gallery space texts could be avaliable with the artworks and projects as second part of the project a book will become second space for Unmarked Categories.

11 September 2007-Program

" The Theory Unmarked Categories" / 18:00 / K2 CAC


18:00 Elmas Deniz will make introduction and a presentation about the issue.
18:30 Open debate / on the possible solutions for take-for granted elements of the daily life.

Talk will be about the theory itself unmarked categories, since it is very wide range of and will be related with the motivations of exhibition.


" Listening Post and Tv. programe: Madea " / 19:00 / K2 CAC

Morten Goll

Artist will introduce both of his projects to the public.

Medea and the Bosporus (58 minutes, Turkish subtitles)
Is a TV-program with 3 invited guests, who are all well known Danish politicians. Poul Nielson is a Social Democrat and a former High Commissioner to the EU. Morten Messerschmidt is MP of The Danish Peoples' Party, which promotes an extreme right wing nationalist agenda. Yildiz Akdogan is a candidate to the parliament and head of the network www.trieu.dk, working to promote Turkeys candidacy to the EU. An invited audience consisting of mainly Danes of Turkish decendance is in the studio.
During the program the politicians and the audience performs a heated debate on the subject of Turkey's possible entrance into the EU. Simultaneously, they take part in the Greek tragedy Medea. Medea is played by Yildiz Akdogan, Jason by Morten Messerschmidt, King Kreon by Poul Nielson. The audience act as the tragedy's chorus.

Goll & Hamou
Morten Goll and Joachim Hamou are both artists living in Copenhagen. Since 2004 they have been collaborating on various video art projects, and in 2005 they formed the identity ”fff – More People Mediate”, which is an editorial group producing TV-programs for the local TV station tv-tv, broadcasting to Greater Copenhagen, Denmark. fff have produced a number of political programs, who all in different ways attempt to challenge the conventional structure of public TV communication. The aim is to examine whether the structure of communication defines, not only what can be said, but as well what political and individual identities are supported by the TV media. Goll & Hamou uses tv-tv as a platform to broadcast entirely subversive communication structures directly to people's living rooms.


" Closing the Gallery" / 20:00 / K2 CAC

The starting point of the unmarked categories project was the challenges to operate in and act independently in the current art system.

"The starting point of the exhibition and comes from an assertive idea: “Closing the Gallery”, a sharp cut in the routine of K2. First aim was, cancelling to display any artwork in gallery space to be able to use space “criticising art system”, due to perceived corruption of its functions that recognised while operating into it and also investigating the idea of “exhibition” itself and its limitations. The reason of this sort of decision has shaped in the years that I derived from the practical experiences in K2, even though K2 offers quite alternative structure to making exhibitions and becoming a space for any kind of artistic practices, there was something missing, inadequate and uncompleted, a kind of fatal error. All affords to maintain to space was effective and satisfactory but there was a need of critical discursive path and getting rid of problems of visibility. There are miscellaneous reasons why K2 Gallery was not enough only functioning as a physical space for contemporary arts. Also realities oppressed by the system and hierarchies in global world in different scales. " E.D.


"I am real" / 21:00 / Cinaralti Meyhanesi

Disapointments of the reel practicioners and how to resist in current condition. Reviev of the day and comments on the issues that outcome of the discussions. It is a very current and interesting issue, the power structures but as it is always those discussions only possible if there is financial power or operation navigation or knowledge level. I am real, is a discussion where those issues will be discussed.

All discussions are open to the public. Related with the unmarked categories tomorrow Gokce Suvari and Mehmet Dere will talk about their participation of the Unmarked Categories, Ashkan Sepahvand will talk about his text contribution and also will cook a dinner around 24th September 2007. İşaretlenmemiş Kategoriler

11 Eylül den itibaren bir ay boyunca izlenebilecek olan İşaretlenmemiş kategoriler sergisi K2 Güncel Sanat Merkezi Galeride açılıyor. Günumüzdeki baskın güç yapılarını güçsüzün perspektifinden sorgulamayı amaçlıyan proje, sanatçı ve yazarları eşit önemde sergide yer almalarına olanak tanıyor. Serginin amaçlarından bir tanesi de sanatçıların alternatif düşünce kanallarını açmaları ve özgürleşme sürecine katkıları.

Sergideki sanatcı ve yazarlar aynı önemde sergide yer almaktalar. Yazarlar isler hakkında yazmak yerine bağımsız yazılarıyla sergiye katılıyorlar.

18:00 Elmas Deniz - Projenin başlığı olan "işaretlenmemiş kategoriler" hakkında konuşacak.
19:00 Günlük yaşantının heaba katıldığı düşünülen durumlarını hakkında çözümler düşünmek ve fikir geliştirme pratiği denenecek.

Konuşma işaretlenmemiş kategorilerin kendisiyle ilgili olacak, kavramın oldukça geniş durumları kapsaması ve serginin niyetleri üzerine konuşulacak.

" Dinleme Noktası and Tv. programı: Madea " / 19:00 / K2 GSM

Sanatçı her iki projesini hakkında konuşacak.

”Medea and the Bosporus”, (58 Dakika, Türkçe altyazılı) üç kişinin davet edildiği bir televizyon programıdır. Bu kişler oldukça iyi bilinen Danimarkalı politikacılardır. Sosyal Demokrat ve eski Avrupa Birliği komisyon üyesi olan Poul Nielson, aşırı sağ kanat fikirleri savunan ”Danish People’s” Partisinden parlemento üyesi Morten Messerschmidt. Türkiye’nin avrupa birliğine girmesini savunan www.trieu.dk iletişim ağının başkanlığını yapan parlemonto adayı Yıldız Akdoğan. Ve stüdyoda, çoğunluğunu Danimarkalı ve Türklerin oluşturduğu izleyiciler yer alır.

Program boyunca politikacılar ve izleyiciler Türkiye’nin Avrupa Birliğine girmesi konusu üzerinde tartışırlar. Eşzamanlı olarak da, antik yunan trajedisi olan Madea’yı canlandırırlar. Madea rolünde Yıldız Akdoğan, Jason rolünde Morten Messerschmidt, Kral Kreon’u da Poul Nielson canlandırmaktadır. Trajedinin Korosu ise seyircilerdir.


" Galeriyi kapatmak" / 20:00 / K2 CAC

"Serginin çıkış noktası oldukça iddialı bir fikre dayanıyor : " Galeriyi Kapatmak", K2 nin rutin faaliyetlerinde belirgin bir kesik. İlk amaç "sanat sistemini eleştirmek" için kullanabilmek adına galeri mekanını kapatmakdı, sistemin içersinde, etkin olarak bu alanda hareket etmekle algılanan bozukluklardan dolayı sanat eseri sergilemeyi bırakmak ve bunun yanısıra amaçlanan "sergi fikrini", "sergi' nin olanakları ve sınırlılıklarını araştırmaya açmaktı.

Bu şekildeki bir karar yıllar içinde K2 de edindiğim pratik deneyimlerle biçimlendi, K2 sergi yapmak ve her tür sanat pratiğine evsahipliği etmek açısından oldukça alternatif bir yapı önerse de, eksik birşeyler vardı, tam olarak uymayan, tamamlanmamış ve bir çeşit mahvedici köktenci bir hata...
Mekanın devamlılığı için gösterilen tüm çaba etkili ve başarılı olsa da, eleştirel ve tartışmalı bir zeminin gerekliliği ve görünür olma sorunundan kurtulma gerekliliği vardı. K2 galerinin güncel sanat için yanlızca fiziksel mekan olarak işlev göstererek neden amaçlarını yerine getirmek için yeterli olmadığı konusunda muhtelif birçok neden sıralanabilir. Bunu yanında sistem ve global dünyanın farklı ölçeklerde baskıladığı gerçekler de sözkonusu..."E.D.


"I am real" / 21:00 / Çınaralti Meyhanesi

Güncel sanatla ilgilenen, direnen, gerçek üreticilerin yaşadığı hayal kırıklığı. Günün yorumları ve konuşmaların ardından ortaya çıkan fikirlerin gözden geçirilmesi. Bu tarz eleştirel yaklaşımların her zaman için maddi gücü, yeterli bilgi düzeyi ve hareket olanakları bulunanlar tarafından yapılıyor olması ve kendini sürekli yoran bir çaba harcama gerekliliği.

Tüm Konuşmalar halka açıktır.

İşaretlenmemiş kategoriler sergi süresince programına devam edecek. Bir sonraki etkinlik Gökçe Suvari ve Mehmet Dere'nin sergiye katılımları hakkında yapılacak konuşmalar ve 24 Eylül'de Ashkan Sepahvan sergi icin hazırladığı metin hakkında konuşacak, iranlı ve alman sanatçılar arasında düzenlediği değişim programıyla ilgili deneyimlerinden bahsedecek ve yemek pişirecek. IK projesi çerçevesinde gerçekleşen etkinliklere ait gelişmeler bu weblog dan duyurulacak.
